The hall sending units for the California Air Cooled 2.0l Vanagon from 80-83.5 L-jetronic and the 83.5-85 1.9l Vanagon with digijet fuel injection, have been very difficult to get for a while now. However we did find that a kit is available, but it has the newer style digifant plug on it. You will have to modify the aluminum body of the distributor to install the new plug as it is slightly bigger. You will need it cut the notch in the side of the distributor it a little wider and a little deeper to allow the new plug to seat. The original notch in the side of the distributor is 7/16 wide by 9/16 deep. The new style plug requires a notch that is 5/8" wide by 5/8" deep. So just slightly wider and deeper. You should be able to do this modification with a dremel tool in just a few minutes. The kit comes with a new style plug for the engine harness that you can splice in. You are are not only replacing your hall sender but also the digijet wiring harness plug which can also get sketchy with time. Let me know if you have any further questions about doing this mod.
